THE STORY
SO FAR

Garden Polytunnels for sale

A chance purchase from Facebook marketplace back in 2023, coupled with a bare foot walk up Glastonbury Tour started my journey to start WhiteBird Polytunnels.

I had always wanted a Polytunnel for my allotment, and one day whilst casually scrolling through Facebook marketplace I chanced upon what looked like a bargain second hand Polytunnel in Wiltshire. Contacting the seller, and arranging a time to view, I emptied my VW camper and duly set off one Sunday morning back in May 2023. I arrived in a small village in Wiltshire to an empty house ! A few frantic phone calls later, I finally got hold of the owner – who, informed me he would be “back later” after a drunken all – nighter. He said i was fine to let myself into his garden, and start taking down the tunnel, and that he would be “back later with bacon sandwiches, but would be no use to me due to his hangover !.

I gave the situation some thought – was this a scam ? Did he even own the house and Polytunnel ? Would I be spending the night in jail ? Undeterred, I spoke to one of his neighbours and the story checked out, so decided to enter the garden and start dismantling…. Little did I know at this stage that just a couple of years later I would be the owner of WhiteBird Polytunnels – Importer of Solar Polytunnels.

In a dark corner of the garden was a 4.5m x 3m “Splendid” Polytunnel – full of accessories and tomatoes ! It had obviously been up for some years, but looked in amazing condition and of a high quality – over the next few hours I slowly but surely took the tunnel down, loading each piece into my VW camper – The owner did finally arrive, and a sale price was agreed – I promised him to keep in touch and thanked him for the bacon butty !

I arrived home to a slightly unhappy wife, who informed me that I had missed mothers day – Whoops ! An evening apology meal was quickly prepared my me 🙂

The next day I unloaded the Polytunnel at my allotment, and set about rebuilding – unfortunately some of the cover had become ripped – so I googled Solar Polytunnels , finding a name and number online I left a message with them. A few days later Mr A gave a call, and we had a somewhat lengthy conversation about all things Polytunnel and gardening. We arranged another time to chat, and that friday I sat in my car, chatting again for almost three hours ! At the ned of the call, Mr A said that I was the “Whitebird’ he had been hoping to oneway meet, and that he was planning on retiring and stepping away from his business.

Would I be interested in taking one the reigns, and joining him on a European visit to the factory. We made plans to meet in Somerset, and the picture above is of Mr A and his lovely wife join me at my Allotment back in 2023 – The very start of WhiteBird Polytunnels !
